Getting to Know the CEO: Keshia Walker

keshiawalkerFRONT

With today’s economy still in turmoil, it’s important to have a keen business sense & constantly look towards enhancing the possibilities of entrepreneurship; which is exactly what CEO & President of Insights Marketing & Promotions Keshia Walker has found a perfect knack for. From the world of Corporate America to the ultimate leap of faith, Keshia Walker has experienced it all & doesn’t mind sharing the blueprint that she’s followed for conquering success.

CAN YOU GIVE THE READERS SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON WHO KESHIA WALKER IS & EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO?

I have BEen truly blessed. I’m in my 13th, well, I’m headed into my 14th year of business, representing some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment, and

the corporate world. On a personal note, I love giving back. I was blessed and honored to start a non-profit organization about 16 years ago called the Team 94 Foundation. We work with at risk youth and getting them from elementary school and middle school all the way through high school and college. We help them BEcome great adults and positive citizens in the community.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU LOVE?

I love traveling. I’ve BEen on every continent in the world except Antarctica. I also love sports, especially football, basketball, and baseball. So I’ve BEen blessed to work in the industries that I share a love for.

WHAT MADE YOU TRANSITION FROM THE CORPORATE WORLD TO LIVING OUT YOUR PASSIONS?

I actually spent 9 years in Corporate America, working with Proctor & Gamble, Coca Cola, BEll South, and lots more. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit since high school. While I was at Proctor & Gamble, I started my own small business doing small promotions and marketing. After I moved to Atlanta, I started to make more connections, while still working corporate . Business started to grow, so I had to pray on it and ask God should I go out on a leap of faith.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR NEW ENTREPRENEURS?

Make sure you’re at the right place both mentally and financially…well actually, professionally and spiritually [as well] BEfore you walk away from corporate or your “for sure” check. You’ve gotta BE prepared financially BEcause sometimes the money doesn’t come right away. Sometimes it’s 90, 100, 120 days BEfore the money starts coming in. You have to have a nest of funds to support your expenses.

HOW DID YOU COME TO MAKE ATLANTA YOUR HEADQUARTERS & HOW HAS THAT BEEN BENEFICIAL IN YOUR BUSINESS?

With me family comes 1st, and my parents are retired and in Alabama and that’s only 2 hours away from here. I came to Atlanta to BE closer to them. There are a lot of corporations here in Atlanta and the great part about our airport is that you can pretty much BE anywhere in the U.S. within a few hours (excepting the west coast).

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO STAY INVOLVED IN OTHER VENTURES OUTSIDE OF JUST YOUR BUSINESS? I SEE YOU’VE WON A NUMBER OF AWARDS AND HONORS FOR PARTICIPATING IN SO MUCH OUTSIDE OF INSIGHTS.

All of my affiliations, whether it’s Association of MBA, Florida A&M University, and even my sorority Delta SIGMA Theta, I’d say networking is key. Whether you’re a part of the organization or not, find a way for the people that you encounter to mutually win with you. With the way the economy is, I always encourage people to at least BE active in 1 or 2 organizations; 1 civil/social and 1 professional. That’ll always help take your brand and your name to the next level.

WHAT’S THE MOST FULFILLING PART ABOUT BEING KESHIA WALKER?

BEing able to work in an industry that I love and the fact that I can always give back. That’s the most fulfilling part about BEing me.

When speaking to Keshia Walker you can’t help but feel a sense of victory. With over a decade of prominence & presence in her field of choice, you can’t also help but to salute this businesswoman as one of the greats. She continues to have a blessed run with all of her endeavors & is a prime example of what every entrepreneur should aim to BE.
