Just when you think the trust fund for Blue Ivy couldn’t get any larger, Daddy finds a way to expand the Carter vault and load it with more cold hard cash. Reportedly, Barney’s New York wanted to bring Christmas home to New York City so why not reach out to Mr. NYC, himself. Jay Z is one of the most prevalent individuals to impact a culture from the music on the radio to sports teams to clothing lines to the way one may process certain aspects of government. This mogul has now merged his experience and personal style into an obtainable collection.
“With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces,” Carter told WWD. “Everything that encompasses ‘A New York Holiday’ — the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery — represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me.”
The partnership will include limited-edition Jay-Z designs including watches and a humidor, along with products from Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, Proenza Schouler and other designers, all in a palette of black, white, gold and silver. Reportedly, prices will BE $70-$33,900… I guess the average Joe was considered.
A quarter of sales will go to Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation, which helps low-income students cover college costs.
Artist Joanie Lemercier was brought in to help design the gallery space and the store’s famous Madison Avenue windows. The Jay-Z collection will be available beginning Nov. 20.
