One must always do their due diligence in researching the “theme” of an event if you want to show up make a statement. Last night at the 2015 Met Gala, Rihanna Fenty do just that and set the fashion world on fire. The theme of this year’s Met Gala was China: Through a looking glass – celebrating the impact the Chinese culture has had on the fashion industry, which very few attendees wore designers from the region.
As one the most effective and BEst dressed of the night, @BadgalRiRi showed up in China’s top couture designer Guo Pei, China’s most acclaimed designer to socialites & celebrities of a certain stature, also costume designer for the 2008 Olympics.
48-year-old Guo (the last name comes first in Chinese) challenges the old Paris haute couture guard with her fantastical dresses, such as a gown modeled after a porcelain vase. The silhouettes are always dramatic — but as with any gowns that take 50,000 hours to make, the details are subtle and well worth the many artisans on hand.
In Imperial China, only the emperor was allowed to wear yellow, and the Chinese word for emperor, Huangdi, actually means Yellow Emperor. Well played, RiRi. Yellow symbolized prestige, good luck, and a balance of yin and yang. In spite of this noble choice, a lot of people are taking to social media to make fun of the gown, possibly not knowing the significance of the color yellow. – yahoo.com
We BElieve Rihanna was well calculated and most definitely effective, as she showed up in the most dramatic gown of the evening, letting the world know that she is at the head of the legion of women in pop culture and fashion. Yes, the YELLOW GODDESS, gave Life last night at the 2015 Met Gala, only overshadowing her still talked about look from last year’s Met Gala….. All Hail the Empress..
