BE Spotlight: Songstress Marsha Ambrosius

So I’m wondering where was she when I needed her music? Not really sure where she was at that time, mayBE in the studio, but I’m sure that is how the story unfolds for the already proving talented platinum selling artist Marsha Ambrosius. When I first listened to her single “Far Away” the thought that came to my mind was “Floetry” and how her voice was so pure then. She takes us all back to when she was in the group and now stepping out on her own. She has BEautifully grown into a marvelous singer.  Some say Marsha’s “Late Nights and Early Mornings” album would be compared to what Lauren Hill did with The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998; I would say it is that, plus a touch of Ms. Marsha Ambrosius’ realness of music.

Born in Liverpool, England; Marsha’s had a love of basketball since childhood who stayed very active. Wanting to attend school in Atlanta, Georgia at Georgia Institute of Technology, but couldn’t due to an injury, Marsha didn’t let that stop her from singing. As you all know she met up with Natalie Stewart, the other half of Floetry, & in 2000, after touring many spoken word/poetry spots in Atlanta, they moved to Philadelphia and got signed to Dreamworks Records. Prior to & since the split of Floetry she has BEen featured on many songs with great artists such as Michael Jackson (Butterflies – background vocals), Justin Timberlake (Cry Me A River – Background Vocals), Jamie Foxx (Freak’in Me), and many more.  After being contacted by many different laBEls she found a home at J Records in December 2009 and her solo album debut “Late Nights and Early Mornings” was released March 1, 2011.

Her first single “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)” which was a song that most, if not all, women could relate to was released August 13, 2010 and charted at number 22 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Within three and a half months of releasing her first single, she released “Far Away” her second single on December 7, 2010, which had a controversial video (with outward gay love), but was true to Marsha’s real life story (having a friend go through the actions of the video’s story line).

This has to BE one of my personal favorites of the entire album as said some of her fans via Itunes reviews and from listening to her album she has a BEautiful story to tell. Like one of her fans stated within those Itunes reviews, “It’s been a LONG time coming, but it’s HERE!!! Words can’t describe this album.” “She has really shown her growth vocally from being in Floetry to stepping out into the solo world with her debut album “Late Nights and Early Mornings”.

Some of the talent recruited for her album includes Alicia Keys, Dr. Dre and Vital (producers of “Say Yes”), Just Blaze and Focus. She has currently BEen added to R. Kelly’s “Love Letter” Tour along with Keyshia Cole; the tour kicks off on June 2nd at the Desoto Civic Center in Southhaven, MS and continues across the United States. So everybody BE ready for Marsha Ambrosius A.K.A. The Songstress of the R&B world.
