#BEmusic: The Artist M’Bo’J

The Artist M'Bo'J2

The Artist M’Bo’J, hailing from Portsmouth, VA the hometown of Missy Elliott and bestselling author Nathan McCall, is making music that will definitely make you wanna holla!!  Seeking to fill the void in “grown folk” music, M’Bo’J is creating New Soul Music with old feeling and grooves on his debut EP “The Heart of the Matter”.

Rooted in gospel, M’Bo’J draws on his experiences, having studied at the Ludwig Drum Symposium at the University of Miami-Coral Cables under the likes of the auspices of Fred Wickstrom, Joe Morello (the Dave Brubeck Quartet), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Cream) and many others, he is a well rounded musician with talents in drums, percussion and keyboards.

Drawing on his experiences in California, Chicago and Philadelphia, M’Bo’J’s music tells stories crafted to melodies of rock, rhythm, blues, jazz and funk.  “The Heart of the Matter”; a nod to his high school, the beloved I.C. Norcom High School and his parents, the late Willie A. and Eugurtha M. Johnson, does indeed get down to the heart of the matter and that is music is the universal healer.

Whether taking a road trip, having a dinner party or curled up reading a book, M’Bo’J’s music is guaranteed to take you back with a gently sway and feelings you won’t want to go away.  If you like Kem and Dave Koz then you’ll definitely enjoy The Artist M’Bo’J.  Virginia is for lovers.  If you love music, you’ll definitely love listening to The Artist M’Bo’J.  It’s the cure for what ails ya!
