BE-Style: What is it about the hair care and cosmetology arena that inspires you to continuously BE at the forefront of the industry?
KK: There are a few things that I grab my inspiration from, but mostly it’s having the ability to work in so many facets of the both industries and being responsible for many of today’s top trends, and working with some of the most amazing people in the world. This inspires me to continuously challenge myself, try something new, and to always be progressive.
BE-Style: Are there any styles that you see coming back this Spring/Summer season from previous eras?
KK: Natural hair seems to be making a huge comeback, whether the look is achieved via extensions or one’s own natural coif. It seems to be one of the most in demand looks, and many celebs are opting for a natural style. You’ll probably be seeing more curls, waves, and an array of various looks and textured styles that can creatively add certain flair to a natural style option. The natural look is IN.
BE-Style: What styles are most requested this season?
KK: I’m getting a lot of requests for fun, creative, and sexy natural styles. With more natural styling options than ever, I’m finding that many people are really enjoying the natural look, and this is great, because you can create a fabulous natural style by also using extensions as well.
BE-Style: We see such a huge market for “virgin weaves,” are they all really of “virgin”? How can one avoid the myths?
KK: I get this question pretty often, and there are a few indicators that will justify the authenticity of your virgin extensions. Virgin hair will have a slightly different hue than that of processed hair, (ex: If you purchase hair that is jet black, more than likely its processed; as even people born with very dark is generally never black, but will be a very dark brown in its natural state∙ Most bundles of Virgin extensions usually come from different donors, and won’t look exactly the same, if they do; then there’s a strong possibility that the hair has been processed, and is not authentic virgin hair.
BE-Style: What is it about your skill set that distinguishes you from other “celebrity” hair stylist?
KK: I think we all have a uniqueness and individuality that distinctively distinguishes us from one another. One of the things about my skill set that sets me apart however, is the fact that I own and operate Kimble Hair Studio in West Hollywood, I have my Kimble Beauty product line that’s available in select Target stores nationwide, and I have different products and extensions that I’ll be introducing as well. So aside from being a celebrity hair guru, I’m a businesswoman who has taken the knowledge and expertise that I have acquired through cosmetology and expanded my career and talents into other areas of the business and cosmetology world, and this is what sets me apart. “I’m a brand…”
BE-Style: What are some of your favorite products to use on clients with natural hair & on those with the weave installs?
KK: I have my Kimble Beauty product line that offers many products that work well for both natural hair and extensions. One of my favorite products is my Bounce Back Curl Revitalizer, and it’s also one of my most popular. It’s free of any sulfates, as my line is all-natural, and it’s great for bringing life back to dull dry hair and or curls. It’s one of my most requested products.
BE-Style: With such an illustrious career, is there any one that you would love to add to the list?
KK: Yes, I’m so glad you asked that question, I would love to work with Prince, he’s back in the studio with Warner Bros, and I would be thrilled to work with him on his new project. He’s absolutely amazing to me.
BE-Style: What’s next on the horizon for Kim Kimble?
KK: There’s so much going on these days, but I am really excited to about the new season of my hit show L.A.Hair on the Wetv Network. We’re now in our third season, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ll also be making an appearance on 106 and Park really soon and that will be loads of fun, I’m working with Pantene, working with more celebs, spending time with my son, and just continuing to do great things with great people.
