“Always talking ‘bout what you got/girl you know that you need to stop…”
rocking the stages, making all the ladies scream and he’s only 19 years old. Yes ladies you heard right. Mr. Colby O’Donis is Akon’s (Konvict Music) latest protégé. With his first single “What you got” overtaking mainstream radio, Colby has definitely come out on top. With his eclectic sound and a twist of R&B/pop, his debut cd “ Colby O” (released Sept 16,2008) will be sure to hit #1 on the charts.
Colby has been grinding for a very long time. At the age of 9 years old, he started playing the guitar and began working with platinum producers Full Force [Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Backstreet Boys, N’Sync], who helped shop his demo around. Through these important relationships, he landed a spot on the soundtrack for the movie “Stuart Little” coining the song “Mouse in the House”. I guess it’s safe to say he’s always been musically inclined, but it’s pure genius now that he can share his craft with the world.
Before he inked the deal with Akon, Colby had already released 6 independent albums. Even though 2008 was a big year for him, he’s anticipating 2009 to be even bigger, now that he’s close to perfecting his the business and the talent side; but how could he not-when he works so closely with one of the hardest working producers in the game. With all that grind, it’s not big secret why Colby is finally seeing his just due payoff.
As of lately, Colby hasn’t just been focusing on his own work, he can also be heard collaborating with label mate, as well as with newly found pop diva, Lady Gaga. The two teamed up for Gaga’s first single “Just Dance”, in which you can hear the sound of Akon chiming in as well. “I’ve known Gaga for a long time, we both have been working hard so it was magic when we got in the studio and cut the record”. Lady Gaga recently released her debut album “The Fame” under Colby’s same label Interscope Records.
Well before Colby hit the scene, you could find him making necessary connections with his already growing fan base by gathering 1000’s of myspace hits and personally messaging his specatators on facebook and other growing sites. “It’s definitely important for me to stay well connected to my fans; that’s how I got my start, so they’ll always be a huge part of my career. It used to be difficult to keep up with them [fans] when I tour, but now I have a pc that connects just about anywhere, so you can check for me now, I bet you I’m on there…and working…”.
With all of Colby’s hard work, he found it difficult to settle his thoughts on this year’s historical election, but he did have faith that the American people would get it right. “I try not to really get caught up into politics, but I know that it’s important to get out there and vote so you and your voice can be heard.”
