1whiteIf you were taught the simple rule “never judge a book by it’s cover” as a kid, meeting Shekinah Jo Anderson, co-star of VH1’s highly rated & BEloved reality shows “TI & Tiny: The Family Hustle”, “Tiny Tonight”, & “Tiny & Shekinah’s Weave Trip” makes perfectly good sense. Often times simply regarded as a loud mouth, fast talking, ghetto girl, Shekinah Jo continues to amaze us & reel us in with her brilliant talent, funny spirit, and quick whit. She’s actually knowledgeable in a numBEr of areas including social awareness, politics, and her definitive love for her race; and that doesn’t even touch upon her marketing expertise, which is BEing showcased throughout her huge social media presence, and through her many thriving business endeavors outside of her first love and passion, doing hair.

We recently sat down with Shekinah Jo to get the details on her BEing a sexier Shekinah Jo, and to see exactly who she BEcame the BOSS that she is today.

HOW DID IT FEEL TO WATCH YOURSELF ON SO MANY SUCCESSFUL VH1 SHOWS?

It’s a blessing, that’s really all that I can sum it up to say. I’m thankful that God put people in my life, so that He could help me get to the next level BEcause at the end of the day, I’m still a cosmetologist. God helped me get my work all out here in the world and I’m so grateful. At first, I just wanted my work to BE in the magazines, but look what He did. He done put me and my lil work all over the world, so I’m very thankful for that.

YOU INSTANTLY BECAME A VH1 FAN FAVORITE. YOU’RE ALWAYS BOSSED UP, YOU’RE FUNNY, AND YOU SHOW SO MUCH LOYALTY TO YOUR BESTIE TINY, HOW HAS IT BEEN RISING UP THE REALITY TV LADDER?

It’s cute. [LAUGHS] I’m thankful that I was able to come into people’s home & people love me. You have some people out here that hate you, but you also have people that love you & that care & you were able to get into their hearts; I’m thankful for that. At the end of the day, people can always confuse me as just this ghetto girl, & yeah I do speak very fast & yes I do cuss, & yes sometimes, or a lot of times, I speak in Ebonics, & I gotta work on that, but it is what it is. I’m just thankful. I’m thankful for the show, I’m thankful for BEing Tiny’s hairstylist, I’m thankful for moving up the ladder. And I am steady moving up the ladder; you have to continue to work, especially while you’re young & can make it happen. That’s why I have a brand called I Work Hard… You have to continue to work, you can’t ever stop working. Even for the women that’s out here in the world & married, & laid up & stuff, they feel content, but you’re really never content unless you keep going & striving & thinking of ways to make money. You want to always put yourself in a position to BE a lender and not a borrower. Tiny really helped me up the ladder, and that’s how it should BE. Surround yourself with people who want to see you climb, and then you can do that  for the next person.

WE ALWAYS GET A BUNCH OF YOUR FANS TELLING US HOW SEXY YOU ARE. HOW DO YOU EMBRACE THE SEXIER SHEKINAH JO?

I’m not all the way sexy to me. I do have a big butt, and I know I’m a little plump, but I just play with it for the thick girls to let them know you’ve gotta BE happy within yourself. I like to play with my thickness & wear 1/2 shirts & do sexy stuff like that BEcause we can. I really wanna BE smaller myself, and I know I need to work out more, but I’m ok with me.

HOW HAVE YOU HANDLED YOUR RECENT RISE IN FAME?

There used to BE a time when people would come up to me & I was real arrogant, but I had to come back down to reality & as myself “what are you doing?” I try to keep a bubbly spirit, & when I’m not bubbly & happy, I don’t go outside. No one else should have to deal with my bad attitude, or deal with why I’m upset. It’s not fair. I don’t even put that energy out there on anyone else. I love my fans though & will continue to show them why they should keep working hard.

IT’S A NEW YEAR, WHAT ARE A FEW THINGS THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2015?

I’m going on tour & plan on hitting every city & state that wants to see me. I’m teaching girls how to do sew-ins, teaching them foundations, teaching them how to lay the tracks, teaching them a classy, unique way to make money. You can sign up for the classes on my website SHEKINAHJO.com. I’m going to BE extremely social with the girls & interact with them one-on-one. Everyone that signs up will get some one-on-one time with me BEfore they leave that day. I’m also pushing my Edges & my T-shirt line. I’m really pushing all the things that make my brand what it is. I hope everyone else takes time out in 2015 to make their dreams come true. It may not come true in 2015, but in 2016, you’re dream might BEcome that reality, so I want people out here in the world to BElieve in themselves & Believe in everything that they have going on. We have to take out some of the hate that we have in our hearts & really support each other.

WE HAD A REALLY ROUGH 2014, DO YOU EVER TAKE THE TIME TO REFLECT ON THE CURRENT SOCIAL CLIMATE?

You can’t help but to see what’s going on out here especially with our African American people. Our young boys keep getting killed & our young girls don’t really know which way to go in life. It’s just a lot going on, like African Americans BEing pushed back from education. We need our education. For our young boys & girls, make sure you get your education. We’ve gotta have more presidents & people to run the world; the way things are going right now, as a race, we are not running our world like we should BE. Who’s gonna BE the next Oprah? Who’s gonna BE the next president on our side? We need that. Who’s gonna BE the next Jesse Jackson? Who’s gon’ BE the next Martin Luther King? I just hope we can come together this year as Black people & love each other & stop the hate and kicking each other down, and actually start lifting each other up. Every other culture spends money with their own; we are the only race that doesn’t turn money with ourselves. Yeah we turn money with ourselves for barBErs and hair stylists, but when it comes to clothes & really big things, we go outside of our own race. I’m not hating on any other nationality, but I’m just stating how I feel. Instead of buying a car with our own race, we go somewhere else, BEcause we often times view our own African Americans as grimy  & we stab each other in the back verses coming together and getting ourselves in order. I want to see our people BEcome more loyal, more in love, and just BE one with each other. Hell, our President is Black…our people never thought they would see that. We gotta love the White man as our brothers too. I want everybody to get along, but first we’ve gotta start working in our own community & our own world Because that’s what affects us most.

WE KNOW YOU ARE EXTREMELY CLOSE WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS; ARE THEY EVER TAKEN BACK BY SOME THE SHEKINAH JO WAYS? LIKE WE RECENTLY CAME TO SEE THAT YOU HAVE A LOVE OF COUNTRY MUSIC, AND EVEN IN THIS CONVERSATION, YOU’RE BRINGING UP POSITIVE POINTS FOR SOCIAL & POLITICAL CHANGE; DO YOU PEOPLE EVER STOP AND SAY “BISH YOU ARE QUITE SMART”?

They already know that… I don’t have to prove anything to my people; they already know. My grandma raised me. I do speak fast, & I’m trying to work on that, but you know I have “little man” syndrome. Little people are always trying to get their voice out there & I speak loudly BEcause I’m so little. I’m sorry that people get the wrong impression, but I want to BE heard. I’m not making excuses for it, I’m just telling you what time it is. I’m very smart though. I think everybody’s smart. Where you;re weak in some places, in other places you’re smart. No one can pass judgement on you but God. When people starting thinking things about me, like I’m slow & I’m dumb, they have a whole lot of stuff in their closets that they could pull out and work on.
