Martinez & Huntley team up for Bodies As a Work of Art 2012

This year marked the 3rd Annual Bodies As a Work of Art funding raising event by The Chelko Foundation. Created by Paul Chelko in 2005 as a way to honor the life of his beloved wife Debbie. The Chelko Foundation seeks to empower women through art, education and partnership by awarding scholarships in the arts and presenting special humanitarian grants. I had the amazing opportunity to speak with two of Atlanta’s connoisseurs of style and elegance. E Vincent Martinez, Style Mag VM & Warren Huntley, Warren Huntley Presents, Inc – both had a great outlook on this years events as they offered they’re time and energies to the production for an important cause. Here’s their take on Bodies As a Work of Art.

E Vincent Martinez

BE-Style: Please describe your roll in this year’s Bodies as a Work of Art charity event? I am wearing two hats in this year’s show: 1- I am a featured artist and 2- I am the Host Committee co-Chair.

BE-Style: How has BEing involved in foundations or causes such as Chelko, personally impacted your life or perception of life? Giving is rewarding. It’s that simple. Its good for the mind and soul. We can take and take all of our lives but if we don’t give back, it’s all meaningless (to me).

BE-Style: Which artist or models are you excited to see? Several of my friends are artists in the show so I’m happy to see them and will hopefully can work beside them for the company and laughs. It’s hard work but we all have a good time!

BE-Style: Could you describe what we should see from the artist? If last year was any indication, we’ll see the most creative minds and hands at work to produce the most dramatic and theatrical event in the city!

BE-Style: What are your goals for this year’s event? The number one goal is to raise money for the Chelko Foundation.

BE-Style: In your opinion, how significant is the Chelko Foundation in the lives of women? All you have to do is meet one of the lives Chelko has touched and you’ll get you’re answer. Their impact is very significant.

Long before Project Runway became a household word, E. Vincent Martinez launched the UrbanCouture program which transformed high school students into Atlanta’s hottest young fashion designers. Henry W. Grady design students launched projects that benefitted the Atlanta community, starting with the “Feed the Models – Save the World” campaign in April 2007 to raise awareness across America about the dangers of eating disorders.

In January 2008, an annual pet fashion fundraiser appropriately tagged “Doggies on the Catwalk” was created. Proceeds from the show benefited Pets Are Loving Support, PALS, an Atlanta-based non-profit organization that is dedicated to keeping pets and owners together.Martinez partnered with Georgia Public Broadcasting who featured Doggies on the Catwalk to TV.

“Feed the Models,” and “Doggies on the Catwalk” are all products of E. Vincent Martinez’s creative vision and energy as well as his dedication to giving his students exceptional learning opportunities.

In 2009, Martinezlaunched A fashion and lifestyle blog which was recently named one of the world’s top fashion blogs by a NY marketing firm. Though fashion is the cornerstone of the fashionado blog, E. Vincent Martinez introduces you to his world of fun, adventure and philanthropy. In 2011 Martinez was listed as one of the best dressed Atlantans by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, AJC.

E. Vincent Martinez is the host of the newly launched online video magazine Style Mag VM. It’s personal, interactive, all original content and it’s video only.

Warren Huntley

BE-Style: Please describe your roll in this year’s Bodies as a Work of Art charity event? I’m really excited to sit on the Host Committee for the second year of this unique event simply supporting my long time friends Randi Lane and Ken Goldwasseur, the creators of BAAWOA. Our roll is to simply get people as excited as we are about the event and the cause, to ensure that we have a sold out crowd. I both produce and attend some of Atlanta’s hottest and most worth while events but this one by far is one of the most unique and fun! I love encouraging my friends and colleagues to come out…expecting the unexpected!

BE-Style: How has BEing involved in foundations or causes such as Chelko, personally impacted your life or perception of life? Over the years I’ve volunteered for, sat on Executive Boards of and produced/designed countless affairs for non-profits. Giving back is simply what you’re supposed to do at any stage in your life. But when you have the opportunity and the means to give your time, talent and or money to a worthwhile cause, it effects you emotionally, spiritually and mentally knowing that you can help those who may have an inability to help themselves. It gives you a greater since of accomplishment and hope for people in general. You never know how you may impact someone’s life, no matter how great or small the deed.

BE-Style: Which artist or models are you excited to see? I have several friends participating this year like stylist Patrick Cooper who is painting for the first time and Vincent Martinez who did an amazing job last year. We have a “celebrity model” this year so I think I’m most excited about that.

BE-Style: Could you describe what we should see from the artist? Amazing Talent. Period. Each of these artists and models give so much time and energy to the cause, you have no idea what to expect! The detail and the artistry that each of these men and women use is not only breath taking but requires such tremendous talent. Body Painting in it’s self is a phenomenal art, but the lengths that these participating artists go to, to execute their vision… is indescribable!

BE-Style: What are your goals for this year’s event? We had a packed house last year so our venue is bigger and more dramatic this year. We simply want people to come, pack it out and have an amazing time and hopefully encourage more people to come out next year and maybe, be influenced to support the foundation on other levels all year round.

BE-Style: In your opinion, how significant is the Chelko Foundation in the lives of women? Randi has done an amazing job in the name of her friends and the Chelko family and their artistic legacy, simply by empowering deserving women through art and art education. I had the opportunity to speak recently with last year’s scholarship winner, Ashli Ognelodh and her from tragedy to triumph story is heart wrenching. It’s evident that the Foundation has gone above and beyond to make life easier for Ashli to ensure that her artistic dreams become reality. I’m really proud of her!
