Independent Label Platinum Power Moves and Ask April Love hosted the official mixtape release of R&B Sensation Vedo. On Tuesday DecemBEr 1, 2015 the 23-year-old singer and songwriter showcased his latest project, 93.
Vedo performed his renditions of popular songs such as, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. After opening the show, he introduced 93 to the music industry professionals, family and friends alike. The Official Mixtape Release gave everyone an opportunity to hear his highly anticipated project. BEtween each song, Vedo shared what fueled his inspiration and disclosed how he was influenced by 90s R&B veterans referencing artists like R. Kelly and Pretty Willie. Soulful R&B was always around him growing up, so it was inevitable that the smooth sounds of R&B would impact his artistry significantly. The evening culminated with additional live performances of his singles “Classic”, “All I Wanna Do”, and “Pull Up”. Atlanta notables in attendance included SESAC’s Associate Director, Writer/Publisher Relations Greggory Smith , music producer Troy Taylor, ATL singer-songwriter Rahbi Raw, Grammy Nominated Mastering Engineer Dvante Black, S.T.E.P.S Events’ Jamahl King along with other music tastemakers and die-hard “Vedo” fans.
Although he has gained notoriety for his covers of trending hits like Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You”. Vedo is most known for his stellar performances on season four of NBC’s The Voice. While auditioning for the The Voice, his mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer. She was able to see his blind audition that wowed R&B singing legend and Voice judge Usher Raymond, she sadly passed away one month BEfore his national debut. Vedo used the loss of his mother as a driving force, leaving his heart on the stage each and every week in honor of her. She continues to remain his motivating influence beyond The Voice. “I’m still striving to make her proud because I know she’s watching.”
The significance BEhind the number 93 goes beyond the fact that it is the year that he was born in. It challenges listeners to relinquish any negative situation in one’s life. Even though 93 consists of R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop elements, Vedo saw fit to include a track that was inspired by his mother, “I Know”. The YouTube sensation also collaborated with NNTME MuCo. Producer Cassius Jay on the melodious R&B track, “Can I”. “93 is my contribution to reviving the authenticity of real R&B music, while making sure I pay respect to those that laid the foundation.
