On 10/13/10, a young man climbed to the top of a building and threatened to take his life via a 22-story flight down to the pavement.
In the meantime, rapper T.I. was on the way to shoot a video with Chris Brown.
Their paths crossed at an opportune time that save this desperate man’s life.
(Want the whole story? Click here. I’m not here to recount the events. I’m here to talk about something bigger than a news story.)
As these events transpired, people Facebooked, Tweeted, and chatted about T.I.’s effort was a publicity stunt. They asked “Why T.I.?“, “What make him think he can talk someone off the ledge?“, “Who told him that he was qualified to do something like that?” “Maybe if I go crazy, I can get (insert celebrity name here) to come rescue me…”
What people fail to realize is that T.I. doesn’t have to meet your or my qualifications. Just like you and me, T.I. has a calling on his life that requires him to act when prompted. Failure to do so could have cost this troubled man his life.
The point of this blog is this: God has NEVER used a perfect person to do His will. Any major move of God was always done by a broken, troubled, and imperfect person. Even every Disciple, from Matthew to Judas was flawed.
Peter was quick-tempered and always ran his mouth about things before knowing the full story.
Paul persecuted and murdered Christians for fun prior to his conversion.
Moses was a liar.
King David was a murderer and an adulterer.
T.I. was a trap boy. A drug dealer. A drug user. A host of other things that I don’t know of.
Alisha was a fornicator. A thief. A liar. A manipulator. A mistress. Former jail mate. And much, much, much more. #transparencyrequired
God used every person listed here to do something great for His people. And he cared not about their man-made qualifications or their history or what they were currently doing, God simply wanted a willing vessel to do His will to save the life (or lives) of others.
