The 2013 Golden Globe Red Carpet Review

Nene Leakes is new to Hollywood but she looked like no veteran on the red carpet at last night’s Golden Globe awards. Opinions on Nene’s red carpet look varied amongst social networks but I think she looked “Gone with the wind fabulous”! Her blonde locks, smokey eyes, and nude lips looked amazing against her black and white dress. I feel her ensemble (designed by Caroline Herrera) was not only red carpet appropriate but also age appropriate and the look was what I would like to call a “distinguished chic”. The high-split in the center of her skirt showed off her long legs and the grey belt at the waist accentuated her curves. Nene has definitely arrived!

Morena Baccarin looked vivacious in Valentino!  What is there not to love about this look? The contrast of black against a navy blue was pure genius. The sheer sleeves, the ruffles, and sequined detail sounds like it would be a bit much, but Morena gives us just enough in this gown.

Look at the lady in black! Kate Hudson turned heads in her low-cut Alexander McQueen gown. This look was definitely sexy but it left a little to the imagination. The contrast between the low V at the neck and the gold detailing on the collar of the dress screams “Old Hollywood Glamour”. The dress was so eye-catching that she didn’t have to do much with her hair; the lady in black applied the k.i.s.s. rule to her ensemble (keeping it simple and stylish). I don’t know about you guys but Ms. Hudson definitely had me saying yes to the dress!

Thandie Newton brought “Hollywood Sweetheart” to the read carpet in her Giles Spring 2013 mini dress. The meticulously placed sparkles against the sheer fabric with the ombre detailing fading from a light grey to an iridescent blue…pure art! She kept it soft and sweet and played her dress up with a bright lip color and pastel shoes being living proof that you can play pastels up with neon lip colors. Saying Thandie looked darling is definitely an understatement, her look IS the definition of demure glam.

Leave it up to Kerry Washington to put the “meow” in Miu-Miu. Miu-miu’s don’t usually scream sexy but the sheer fabric with the sequined detail took this look over the top, and the nude shoes added that perfect touch. There was no need for over the top jewelry because the dress says it all. The nude fabric at the collar against the ebony hue of Ms. Kerry’s skin along with her wispy bangs and subtle make-up palette was simply everything!

Michelle Dockery dazzled on the red carpet in her gold and white gown. The embroidered gold detailing at the top of the dress is breath taking, and the way that that fabric cinches at the waist shows off Ms.Dockery’s slamming figure. She definitely brought “Hollywood Noir” to the red carpet this year.

Yes, these ladies looked absolutely amazing on the red carpet…but it’s sad to say that there were a few misses at last night’s awards.

Liu Liu looked like she belonged in someone’s theme park singing “The Colors of the Wind”. The hair and the make-up gets an A plus. The simple yet complex fishtail braid and a soft palette works for her and shows off her gorgeous face, but the dress not so much. I don’t  think Miss Liu got the memo that “GROWN and sexy” is in this season, and from the looks of this picture the lady behind her would agree.

Giuliana Rancic definitely disappointed, especially for her to be one of E’s “Fashion Police”. The only thing she has going for her with this look is her make-up. Liu Liu looked a little girl and Miss Rancic looks like an old lady. I feel her hair and her dress aged her. Sheer is in and black is in, but Giulianna found a way to combine the two and look like an old widow at a funeral. The fact that her collar is so high and there is no element of sexy added to the dress is probably what lead to this look coming off as a dress that grandma would wear to a funeral. Giuliana has the widow look down pat; the only thing she’s missing is a black veil and some Kleenex.
