The Chelko Foundation: Bodies As a Work of Art

Among the millions of young women that dream to travel a road of great joy and purpose, to receive a higher education and obtain great opportunities leading into their professional careers, sadly many never see the day. But, there is an angel watching over the lives of these young ladies that dare to dream. In 2005, Paul Chelko – an artist, philanthropist, and humble servant of good will decided that he would honor the life of his wife Debbie by starting The Chelko Foundation Scholarship for Women in the Arts.

After Paul passed, his dear friend Randi Layne, a woman that I love & respect, took the reigns and with the support of the Boards of Directors, formed a Scholarship program to carry out the mission of The Chelko Foundation. For the last 3 years, The Chelko Foundation held a artistic exhibition where artist use the bodies of live models as a canvas to creatively express themselves. Bodies As a Work of Art, is an extremely entertaining night 0f whimsy and thought provoking art as the designers compete for top honors and cash prizes. The attendees had the pleasure of Mara Davis bringing her witty humor as the Event Emcee. In the midst of all the fun, the premise for the evening is to raise money for the foundation and present a deserving applicant with the opportunity to continue to college through scholarship. And this year, has culminated a moment in time where one more young lady and many to follow will gain the opportunity to continue on to college in the pursuit of an art degree and a chance to have their dreams closer to their proverbial reach. Last year’s recipient, Ashli Ognelodh (http://ashlioart.com/home), gave a heart appreciation for The Chelko Foundation as she was able to matriculate through her senior year at Georgia State on a financial scholarship awarded to her by the foundation.
