Holiday of Hearts & Hope

As the year comes to an end, the last twelve months have definitely impacted many lives in a way that we will never forget.  The world has experienced some of the most tumultuous times in history. On a daily basis we were reminded of the economic status of this country and many other nations.  Employees lost jobs by the hundreds of thousands and families lost what had become a comfortable roof over their heads.  We watched and read about millions dying as a result of war, genocide, starvation, and medical ailments. The year 2008 has been one to go down in the history books as a year of great uncertainty, pain, and suffering.  Some may question what lessons are to be learned from the experiences and what choices could they make differently. For some, the answer is simple.  Many will make the conscious decision to not live beyond their means and spend wisely. Rihanna lends her fame to Unicef/Gucci for a worthy causeOthers will choose to positively affect the lives of others through performing kind acts, fund-raising, charitable donations, or just being available to lend time and self.

Celebrities are an amazing example of those who find time to give of themselves through selfless acts of kindness. Oprah Winfrey founded The Angel Network, Sheryl Lee Ralph stages Diva’s Simply Singing, and Rihanna is new the spokes model for the Gucci and UNICEF initiative.  UNICEF continually partners with the corporate sector to advance its mission of ensuring the health, education, equality and protection of every possible child. Since 2005, Gucci stores in over 20 countries donate 25% of sales from an ultra exclusive line of products. Frida Giannini, creative director of Gucci, has designed a cutting edge line of products for the company’s Holiday Campaign to Benefit UNICEF.  This year, Ms. Giannini was inspired by Rihanna and commissioned to be the spokes model in the worldwide advertising campaign of the WHITE TATOO HEART COLLECTION. Rihanna’s kind spirit coupled with her love for fashion made of perfect fusion of wholesome creativity with Ms. Giannini. The multi-platinum award-winning artist has joined the fashion powerhouse to be featured in magazine and other media starting the month of December. The Unicef Snowflake has become a fixture of NYC!The partnership is expected to have an unprecedented effect on the fundraising efforts and the awareness of UNICEF’s mission. “We are thrilled to have Rihanna take part in the lighting ceremony in New York City,” said US Fund for UNICEF President and CEO Caryl Stern. “She has tremendous enthusiasm for helping those in need and is the ideal person for spreading the UNICEF Snowflake’s message of hope, peace and compassion for children around the world.”

Every year in New York City at the Grand Army Plaza, the largest outdoor chandelier of its kind, the Snowflake, is light to celebrate the holiday season. Rihanna was on hand to help flip the switch at the event.  Ne-Yo was also in attendance to perform with Rihanna at the lighting ceremony. It’s a great thing when someone takes time out of his or her lives to be a blessing to someone less fortunate.  Every time a child receives a book, gets a hot meal, a night rest at a shelter. Every time a life is saved, an impression is left on the hearts of those involved. The lives of the children and donors will forever be changed from these efforts.
