Trina – wRAPped in AMAZIN'

It was just a short time ago that many a hip hop lover complained about a lack of female representation in the game, but those in the south (or those that closely watch the southern movement) can’t really share in that sentiment. For those same years we’ve been rocking to female fire flames like Gangsta Boo, Mia X, Rasheeda, Diamond (formerly of Crime Mob), Missy, and of course a rapper that reigns supreme in rap royalty…

 THE BEGINNING

We’re speaking of none other than the “Baddest B*tch”, the “Diamond Princess’ otherwise known as Trina.

Trina erupted on the scene under fellow Miami rapper Trick Daddy, and delivered what became a female anthem verse on the track “Nann N*gga” on Trick’s album http://www.thug.com/. Ever since we first heard the lines:

You don’t know nann hoe uh-uh
Don’ been the places I been
Who can spend the grands that I spend
Fuck bout 5 or 6 best friends
And you don’t know nann hoe uh-uh
That’s off the chain like me
That’ll floss the thang like me
On a awful thang like me
You don’t know nann hoe uh-uh
That sell more ass than me
You know nann hoe
That’ll make you come like me
Nigga you don’t know nann hoe uh-uh
That don’ tried all types of shit
Who quick to deep throat the dick
And let another bitch straight lick the clit
Now you don’t know nann hoe uh-uh
That’ll keep it wet like me
Make it come back to back like me
Lick a nigga nut sack like me
Now you don’t know nann hoe uh-uh
That’ll ride the dick on the dime
Who love to fuck all the time
One who’s pussy fatter than mine
Bitch you don’t know nann hoe

Fans instantly became engulfed in every move the “Diamond Princess” made, whether she was draped in jewels from head to toe, or she was showcasing what even she’s come to brag on as being her better ASSets. In 2000, Trina dropped her debut album, laying down hits like the title track “Da Baddest Bitch” & “Pull Over”. The album was eventually certified GOLD which further placed the former Miami office worker gone rapper to a higher plateau.

THE HITS

Trina’s next project Diamond Princess was released in 2002, and while it received lots of commercial success, Trina also faced large proportions of rumors from supposed reports of plastic surgery, all the way to a claimed lesbian affair with her “bestie” Missy Elliot (which Missy touches on in her single “Gossip Folks”). Being the “Baddest” obviously doesn’t mean succumbing to unwarranted hate; Trina took all the negative in stride, stayed in the studio cranking out more hits like “B R Right” featuring Ludacris, “No Panties”, “Don’t Trip” featuring Lil Wayne, “Here We Go” featuring Kelly Rowland, “Single Again”, “I Got a Thang for You” featuring Keyshia Cole, “Look Back at It” featuring Killer Mike, “Million Dollar Girl” featuring Keri Hilson and Diddy, and “Always” featuring Monica. With such an extensive laundry list of radio killers, it’s no secret why Trina is five studio albums in and has no plans of letting up soon.

THE BEEF

Females seem to be attached to a certain element of drama, which seems to have made Trina an easy target for a little hip hop beef. Trina has been rumored to have beefed with Jacki-O (rap beef), Khia (rap beef), Vanessa Bryant (Kobe’s wife…adultery beef), Trick Daddy (label beef), and even with her ex-boyfriend Lil Wayne (relationship beef). Trina’s latest beef rumors are with Lil’ Wayne’s newest female prodigy Nicki Minaj (untrue beef), which Trina has recently come out to dispel as false. Trina addressed her take on the drama in her song “What’s Beef?”

I’m in the air, I dont hear bitches’ corny raps
The badest bitch is back. The badest bitch is back.
What’s Beef? Beef is when the bitch titties looking like they sleep.
Beef is when the clothes lookin’ like dirty sheets
Beef is when I help you sell records just like i do. Now that’s beef.
What’s Beef? Beef is when these hoes say my name in the streets.
Beef is when they fame only last a few weeks.
Beef is when I help you sellin’ records just like i do. Now that’s beef.

THE AMAZIN’

On May 4th, 2010 Trina released her fifth studio album Amazin’ and has been on a media blitz promoting the project. She’s released videos for “That’s’ My Attitude” and “Million Dollar Girl” and also released two mixtapes to assist in promoting the album. BE Magazine sort of caught up with Trina at her Atlanta Meet & Greet at DTLR, but in true “Diamond Princess” diva status, Trina was too busy signing autographs to directly speak with media, but through EMI & Slip-N-Slide, we’ve been promised a direct interview with this issue’s cover artist…the “Baddest B*tch”. We’ll keep you posted when the exclusive interview comes through, but until then, enjoy our video of Trina showing her fans some appreciation for purchasing Amazin’.
