Canadian Born Dj Baby Yu, decided to take a few moments out of his busy tour schedule to chat with BE Entertained Magazine about his journey on the 1’s and 2’s.
How Did you get in DJing?
It actually started off as a hobby, but after reuniting with old friends, and seeing one of them DJing at a house party, it sparked something within me. I loved the way the DJ controlled the viBE of the room with his skills.. I started to watch more and more and it eventually drove me from, turning this BEing a hobby and love for music into a career.
Where did the name come from?
Well BEfore my first gig I didn’t have a name BEcause for me and my friend’s DJing was just for fun. BEing the youngest of the group and my friend’s back home called me “Yuta”. Eventually, they deemed me “DJ Baby Yu”!
Where do draw your inspiration???
The love of music and how going to different parties and or clubs. Hearing different DJ’s and just really observing how they control or set the tone or mood for the people. Then I really grasped and understood how I could captivate, and or inspire other people through my work of music and how I could achieve just that.
When did you get your big break??
Things just really had a ripple effect BEcause every year, or every few years, it was something new. From the biggest Asian community and high school events and colleges in Toronto, Canada to traveling across the country and overseas then to commercial radio, which transpired into BEing on TV. After all of this I BEgan opening up for some really hot people. I opened up for Such people as Young Jeezy,(who I am currently on Tour with) Pharrell, Juelz Santana and the list goes on. I got a real big opportunity when I BEgan doing after parties for Kanye West & Jay-Z.
What are some of the other things you are currently working on?
I am currently working for the biggest club promoter AG Entertainment. I am doing all of their events. It’s a very exciting thing. I’m also currently touring with Young Jeezy. I am still on the radio and heavy in the mixtape business. I am working with Atlanta mogul “Kenny Burns” on a few different projects that you must look out for.
What Kind of words would you like to leave your fans and our readers with???
BE ORIGINAL! Always know how to create yourself, recreate yourself, and perfect a brand for yourself. Put yourself out there to BE heard, allow people to know who you are. I’ve BEen in the business for 14 years and still I’m not where I want to BE, but for any artist in this industry you have to have patience.
